Pep-Rally

On the first day of school, we have discussed having a pep-rally for the kids and parents to introduce the 7 habits. We need to get this organized as well. So what are your thoughts and ideas??

  1. Maybe we could introduce each one in the form of a cheer just to get the names of them out there. For example, "When I say 'Be' you say 'Proactive' - "BE!" "Proactive!"

  2. Ok, here's what I think. Rather than throw it all out on that 1st Pep Rally, maybe we should just build it around the idea of "getting fired up" and "winning" etc. We could just briefly introduce the idea that we are doing something totally new and amazing, and that everyone will benefit from it. We could even do that clip that boxing matches start with, "Are...you...READYYYYYYYY?" You know, just a little tease to get them interested. I am going to throw this out now. I am the "steward" of the Box Tops account. I am going to look into ordering something that we can give each kid that 1st day, something like those yellow "Livestrong" bracelets that Lance Armstrong wears. We could print them with a simple saying like, "Greatness begins with me" or something along those lines. I want something tangible and exciting to give to the kids that 1st day to get them excited. What do you think ladies?

  3. Something else...rather than use the 1st day pep rally to elaborate on the habits, I say we use it to hi-light our leaders. And I mean ALL of the leaders. This will be our 1st impression w/many of our parents, and the 1st memory our students have for this year. Let's do a quick intro of EVERYONE, The Leaders of the School, administrators, Leaders of the Classrooms, teachers (in grade level groups), LEADERS OF NUTRITION, LR ladies. (make them feel special from day 1). Leaders of Involvement, PTO. Etc. Mr. Ricky, Mr. McCrimmon (new guy), custodians, etc. Let's even invite the bus drivers to park their cheese wagons and come so we can introduce them as the leaders of transportation. I still say we need to have something, even if it's just a bottle of water and a donut for the parents. Small things like that make HUGE impressions. Again, I say that we don't start preaching the 7-Habits just yet on that day...let's just throw out there that we are going to do something awesome and new this year, and intro. our leaders. Questions? Comments? Connections? (UGH, Core Reading flashbacks ;)

  4. I love the ideas!! I like not throwing it all out their at once. Just let them know that a positive change has occurred. Introducing the leaders is a must!! now what time do we start. The point is to do it first thing. Parents go straight to the gym that way they are not in the classrooms!! Students leave the gym and we talk to the parents just a little bit so once again they aren't in the classroom. Any thoughts on that?? ya'll are amazing and this blog is working out great! once we ave mastered these ideas, I am going to spit some more out there! :)

  5. I spoke to Mr. Mac. He is going to create a CD with upbeat music for us to play as the children enter the gym for the Pep Rally. We can just do it over the speakers in the gym. Also, he is very interested in us doing a release for him. He would like to do it towards the end of September. We discussed it being a part of our Fall Celebration and having his band perform and he said he could possibly get another band too. It would be similar to our Spring Flings that Susanna put on for us.
