Rules and Consequences
I have emailed Jane Knight asking her input on Rules and Consequences. I will let you know what I hear. I also like the Level (0-4) that Sara A. shared with us. I do agree that we need to know what to do with "that kid" that needs a little more. Give your thoughts and maybe we can come up with some conclusions.

This is what Jane said:
ReplyDeleteAmanda,
Many of the schools I work with use Love and Logic. If you’re not familiar with it, google and several options will pop up. The author is Jim Fay.
One thought for the meantime: Have you ever tried a form letter that the children complete? Something like:
Dear ___________________
I am in trouble because ______________________________
I should have been ________________________________
From now on I will _______________________________
I realize you’d still want/need consequence options, but having students write about their behavior helps them to own it.
Ok, so now I am going to have to buy this book too!! Several schools use this. I am researching the web-site. There are several books that go along with this approach: Teaching with Love and Logic, Creating Classrooms Where Teachers Love to Teach and Students Love to Learn, Schoolwide Discipline Plan Without the Loopholes, Students Speak. I was thinking four of us could buy one of the books, read it then rotate it. Let me know what you think. If not I might just go ahead and buy the first one and if I love it, but the next.
ReplyDeleteOk nevermind, I bought the first 3 mentioned on amazon already. I got all 3 for $33 free shipping! I will let you know if they are worth purchasing. I think this may possibly be the solution we could be looking for. Or I could have just wasted $33! We will see.
ReplyDeleteI'll order Schoolwide Discipline Plan without the loopholes and put it on top of my stack because I believe it is imperative that we have a concrete plan in place when school starts. Amanda, let me know if I need to order any of the others. I also have copies of the 7 Most Important DFecisions You'll ever Make (Sean Covey), Living the 7 Habits, the Courage to Change (Stephen Covey) and the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families if any of you want to borrow any of these. Oh, just in case you need some good pleaseure reading, I just finished My Sister's Keeper and it is great. It can be borrowed as well. Maybe we need to start a book swap. Thanks for getting this info, Amanda. I'm off to Amazon.com.
